computer-problemsThis blog is up for the first time since Monday evening. I am not certain what the issue was. It appears to be a server failure on the part of my hosting company. I apologize for the problem. I am beginning to work on a new version of this blog. It can be found at http://jonclaytonbizblog.com/.  It will be a work in progress.

Piano Lessons And More

Posted by: Jon Clayton | Comments (0)

It is the beginning of a new year. A lot of people have resolutions, goals, or lists of things they want to accomplish this year.

Last year, at age 51, I decided to learn how to play a guitar. I have no musical training. But, with good lessons and a lot of practice, I have made considerable progress. I now lead some of the music at church. It has been a dream come true for me. Perhaps this is your year to learn the piano. In order to play piano, you will need piano lessons.

Allow me to introduce Yoke Wong. She is an online piano teacher. That is correct. You can learn piano through online piano lessons. Imagine that! Taking piano lessons online in the comfort of your own home. You can also take piano lessons using DVDs.

Yoke founded Harmony and Melody Studio, Inc, a leading piano educational publisher. That means she also has sheet music available for those who already play piano.

“Bringing people closer to the Lord through music is Yoke’s mission.”

Check it out today and take the first step towards learning to play piano.

Life turnaround Part 1

Posted by: Jon Clayton | Comments (0)

Table of contents for Life Turnaround

  1. Life turnaround Part 1
  2. Life Turnaround Part 2

wrong_way_1Life Turnaround  Part 1

Every so often, you’ll come to a point in your life when you realize that you’ve gotten off track in a big way. Perhaps the realization will sink in slowly over a period of time. Or, some kind of crisis may arise that suddenly makes you see you’re headed in the wrong direction. Certainly it can feel frightening and overwhelming to realize that your life is not going where you wish for it to go. And yet, when you reach that point it is actually a very positive and empowering moment. Because you are marvelously equipped to deal with it, and by doing so you can end up making your life significantly more positive, meaningful, productive and fulfilling than ever before. You are smart, adaptable, resourceful, and completely able to turn your life in any direction you choose. Realizing that you have gotten off track enables you to re-evaluate everything in your life and to re-direct your efforts so they produce the kind of world that you truly wish to live in.

Success in life does not happen in one smooth, uninterrupted effort. In every life, in every achievement, there must be many adjustments along the way. Turning your life in a new direction does not mean you have failed. On the contrary, it means that you’re aligning yourself with success. It means that you’re paying attention and that you’re learning from experience. It represents an enormous opportunity to get more deeply in touch with who you truly are and to more fully understand what’s important to you. It is a chance to move your life to a higher level of awareness, achievement and fulfillment.

Stop playing the blame game

One of the most wasteful things you can do is to sit around blaming others for your troubles. Sure, it’s very easy to blame your spouse, the government, your co-workers, the economy, or a whole list of other outside influences for your situation. It’s easy and it’s useless. Blaming others accomplishes only one thing. It enables you, in your own mind, to escape responsibility. Yet in order to make progress, you must do the exact opposite. You must take responsibility for every little corner of your life. Of course there are all sorts of factors in your world over which you have absolutely no control. Sure, the actions of others have contributed to your situation. However, you are the person who must deal with that situation. Your best strategy is to get beyond the blame and to get busy taking the positive steps that will turn your life around.

Thinking Skills Part 10

Posted by: Jon Clayton | Comments (0)

contemplationLook ahead

Things generally happen for a reason. If you look carefully, you can often uncover very reliable cause and effect patterns. Learn to look at past events and extrapolate them into the future.

For example, you’ve seen in the past that when the state completes a new highway, real estate development occurs along that highway and property values go up. New homes are built first, then retail stores open up to serve the people moving into the homes. The highway department has just completed a new road west of town. A developer has just broken ground on a new residential community. You have an opportunity to buy some commercial real estate near the highway and the subdivision. Do you think you’ll be able to find tenants for a new shopping center on the property? Extrapolating the current situation, based on past experience, tells you that, yes, commercial real estate would probably be a good investment.

Of course no trend goes on forever. Back in the early 1980s, after crude oil prices had been rising steadily for years, many experts thought that the price of oil would just keep on going up forever, because it was a limited, non-renewable resource. They were proved wrong (in the short term at least) when the high price of oil encouraged more exploration and drilling. As the proven oil reserves actually began to increase, the price of oil declined dramatically.

So, of course, no one has a “crystal ball.” The future cannot be accurately predicted, because it hasn’t happened yet, and there are a lot of possibilities that no one has even thought about. You can, however, get a good idea of what is most likely to happen, by projecting current trends forward. Plus, it is an excellent way to sharpen your thinking. Just imagine how much better prepared you’ll be for the future, when you’re able to see things coming.

Make the effort to improve your thinking

Martin Luther King said that “Rarely do we find men and women who willingly engage in hard, solid thinking. There’s an almost universal quest for easy answers and half-baked solutions. Nothing pains some people more than having to think.”

Indeed, thinking does take considerable effort. And it is well worth the effort. All achievements begin in the mind. Everything that anyone has ever invented, built, written, performed, produced or otherwise created, began to take shape first as a conscious thought. The quality of your thinking has a direct affect on the quality of your life.

The ability to think is one of life’s greatest and most powerful treasures. In every moment, in every situation, put that treasure to work for you.
