Have Fun Part 4

By Jon Clayton

having-fun5Dig down deep into the things you most enjoy. That in itself is an enjoyable exercise. And it can also be an enlightening experience. The more you understand why you enjoy something, the more you can extend that enjoyment to other things.

Gratitude plays a big part in fun and enjoyment. Have you ever thought about that? When you’re thankful for the things you enjoy, you set in motion a process which can expand the level and the scope of that enjoyment. Being thankful for what you enjoy helps you to better understand those things and helps you to see precisely what it is about them that you like so much. The more you understand and appreciate what’s enjoyable in your life, the more enjoyable everything can be.

Put more fun in your life and more of your life will become fun. Make a point to do something each day that you already consider to be fun and you’ll find that some of the other things, things you may not have previously thought to be fun, will become more enjoyable, too.

Life can be exceedingly stressful if you let it. Enjoying yourself will significantly reduce the stress. Some stress is unavoidable and necessary. But a considerable amount of stress is indeed avoidable and completely unnecessary. That’s the stress that you pile on top of existing stress when you fill yourself with resentment, frustration, and anger. When you’re having fun, these toxic, negative feelings become much less prevalent and they can even disappear completely, to be replaced by more positive feelings. When you’re enjoying yourself, you tend to feel acceptance rather than resentment, understanding instead of anger, enthusiasm and determination in the place of frustration. There’s always going to be a certain level of stress. Yet when you’re having a good time, it keeps the stress from overwhelming and defeating you.

How many times have you told yourself, “this is going to be boring”? When you say that to yourself, what usually happens? What happens is that whatever you’re doing does indeed turn out to be quite boring and tedious. Were you psychic and able to predict the future? No, you didn’t predict the future. You created it. The experience was boring because you expected it to be boring.

So what do you think would happen if you said to yourself, “this is going to be fun”? When you’re expecting to have a great time, you’ll figure out a way to have a great time.

Hi Jon,

You’re so right. Life is just better when we’re having fun. I think business is also.

That’s not a excuse to be irresponsible. But it’s common advice to do the part of your business that you do best and outsource the rest. This idea is similar to yours.

Warmly,

Linda P. Morton

Thank you Linda. When work is fun or when you enjoy your work, life is a lot better!
