Many people unfortunately get the idea that to have fun you have to be doing something wrong or immoral. But that’s not the case at all. You can have a wonderful, enjoyable time while also doing things that are good for you and right for the world. You don’t have to be “getting away” with something wrong. It’s perfectly fine to have fun “getting away” with something right.
Real and genuine enjoyment can be found everywhere, in all kinds of situations. Open your mind to that possibility, and you’ll start to see all sorts of opportunities for fun.
Life is better on many different levels when you’re having a good time. So always be on the lookout for ways to have fun. You don’t have to abandon your responsibilities. That wouldn’t really be any fun anyway. It would just be foolish.
And even though there are many additional benefits to having fun, the way to have more real, genuine fun is to discard any expectations for what it will bring you. You can have more fun when there’s no pressure to do so. Just do it because you want to do it, not because you expect anything to come of it. Ironically, when you take that approach, many good and valuable things will indeed come of it.
What do you consider to be the most enjoyable experience you’ve ever had? Think about it, visualize it, and imagine yourself reliving it. Hear the sounds, see the sights, and feel the feelings. In your mind, put yourself right there in the middle of your most treasured moment of enjoyment. Now ask yourself this question. What’s so great about it? What is it about the experience that makes it so enjoyable?
Is it the challenge? Is it the physical sensations? Is it the surroundings? Is it the person or people with whom you’re sharing the experience? Is it the opportunity to express yourself? Is it the excitement of exploring the unknown? Is it all of these things or a combination of some of them?

Hi Jon,
Thanks for this reminder that we must take time for fun. But I think you’re also saying that we must have fun doing what we need to do.
I don’t take enough time doing what brings me the most fun – country couples dancing. But I do enjoy blogging. Sure it’s lots of work. I’m not good at the technical part, but I love the research and writing.
I’ve always told my students and children that it’s vital they earn their living doing something they really enjoy. I wouldn’t say I’m earning a living, but I’m enjoying.
You seem to enjoy blogging too. I’d love to get better acquainted.
